Agency Accomplishments

Training/Operations:

  • Field Training Officer (FTO) Academy- for our deputies to train the newly hired deputies when first entering patrol functions.
  • Re-certification and continued education to our deputies for safety and efficiency several times a year.
  • Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission imposed a new mandatory training requirement for agencies through our the State of Florida. Sheriff Fleming purchased "Ti Training Lab" Simulator. This "lab" is an interactive use of force training simulator with an unique feature set that allows for total customization of the training environment.
  • Re-Accreditation for Sheriffs Office; complying equal to and/or better than other Counties in Florida. www.flaccreditation.org/index_CFA
  • Internal Affairs Unit (I.A.) Sheriff Fleming created a dedicated I.A. Unit which under the direction of a Sergeant which reports directly to the Sheriff and the Chief Deputy.
  • Sheriff Fleming has supplied the majority of each shift with rifles and tasers to ensure the safety of the deputies and citizens of Flagler County.

Current Agency Programs:

  • Citizens Academy established in January 2007 to increase communication between the FCSO and the citizens with an insight into the job functions and duties of the law enforcement deputies.
  • Police Athletic League (PAL)- Manage in excess of 2000 Kids Women’s Self Defense Course for the ladies of the community to practice with simulated attacks with life saving moves.
  • Project Child Safe- Free Gun Locks & education to our community.
  • Citizens Against Senior Exploitation (CASE) Neighborhood Watch Programs have increased. We currently have over 30 groups with a goal to reach over 40 this year.
  • FCSO website: www.myfcso.us, to keep the community informed of active warrants, illegal activities, sexual predator and latest scams.
  • Website has capabilities for e-mail residents with county updates and alerts.
  • Along with the Gang Investigator Position, each squad has at least one officer with advanced gang training.

Agency Staff & Equipment Enhancements:

  • Growth of Agency Departments- Hiring in Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Evidence, Communications, Road Patrol, PIO Assistant.
  • One (1) K-9 for each squad (5 active dogs) for 24/7 coverage.
  • 12 active offiers on bike patrol with increased security in both the high crime rate areas as well as business plaza's.
  • New SWAT vehicle and equipment for Dive Teams.
  • Assisted Flagler County in setting up the 800 MHz Radio system for non interrupted air traffic.
  • Managed Information System (MIS): All in-vehicle computers have Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and GPS for quicker response times. Dispatch relocated to Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Bunnell.

Future Strategories:

  • Public Safety Coordinating Council: Expanding the Explorer for both teenage boys and girls in the community. We want to bring the programs such as P.A.L. and Big Brothers and Big Sisters together.

Inmate Facility:

  • Private Contract for food service and pharmaceuticals (reduction in cost) Completed Liability Assessment to present to the County Commissioners.

Citizens Observer Patrol (COP) Program:

  • Besides our Old Kings Road location, we have 2 New Substations - Hammock and West Side. The COP substations offer Fingerprinting, gun permits, vacation house watches, notary public services, VIN verifications, citation sign-offs, file police reports, obtain police reports, special detail requests. Notary Public Services are available free of charge on most days.
  • Recently, some of our Flagler County Sheriff’s Office C.O.P.’s have completed a 100-hour course that certifies them to respond to minor traffic accidents.
